Killing Us Softly 3

This video states that the media places value on things that have no real tangible value . This is literally "Killing Us Softly". They are manipulating the public's' values for unreachable perfection. The part that had the biggest impact on me was how this unrealistic view of how people should look is actually "softly" killing people. I think that the media has come along way and I do not agree with Jean Kilbourne's reference about how animal prints are placed on people of color to make them look more animalistic. Advertisers have increasingly featured racially diverse people in ads because it makes good money sense. It does not make good money sense to demonize them. As a church welfare counselor I have spent time in a hospital with a young college student undergoing tests for heart failure because of being anorexic. She is a bright young women that is always striving for perfection. The unrealistic, unhealthy images in portrayed in the media have contributed to her disease. Young men are increasing becoming new victims of eating disorders. This is also attributed to muscle magazines and other unrealistic portrayal's of men in the media.
