I would like all of my educational technology classes to help me become a better teacher by incorporating technology into my classroom. From the research that I have done for my classes last semester, I learned that it is not enough to simply use technology in the classroom. Students do better if a teacher/mentor is there to provide guidance and feedback. In other words, a teacher needs to provide scaffolding for the students. When a lesson plan is student centered, as it is in project based learning, the teacher needs to be able to help the child take the project in any direction that interests the child. I want to develop a technological tool belt that will enable me to guide the child towards the resources that he/she needs to be successful. There is a ton of junk on the internet. I want to be able to know where the gems are hidden and how to utilize the gems as effective tools in the classroom.
Technology in the classroom should not be used like a leather bound encyclopedia was used in the past. Using technology should be more than gathering information, it should be used to create instead. I want to learn how to teach children how to do that.
