Family History PBL
For our final project we had to create a PBL that the other students in the class had to work through. This was a really great experience because we were able to see how our lessons would play out in a real classroom setting. I was able to note the role of metacognition during this project. Not only from the students view, but from an educators view also. As educators we also need to evaluate our cognition about cognition or our thinking about thinking. Educators need to fully understand the material they are trying to teach. They also need to be interested in what they are teaching. If I am bored with a subject, it is hard for me to get the students interested in it. The reason we decided to focus on family history for our project was because we all were interested in it and I had a lot of knowledge and experience with it. This seems to have translated to many of the other students in the class because I received a few comments about how excited they were about this project and about how well done the lesson was.
On the flip side, it was nice to work through the other student's PBLs. Not only to understand the students perspective, but to learn about all of the cool, free technologies available to teachers to aid with student centered projects.
The entire lesson was posted on a class wiki along with the students work.
