The director of the movie Helvetica expressed a message that the message is not only in the message, it is also in the typeface. When designing a project, the designer should also be aware of and put to full use the typeface to fully express themselves. The movie gave examples both for and against using Helvetica. Those for it tended to be pro-business establishment and those against were more anti-establishment. The author and director of Helvetica, Gary Hustwit also directed another movie about manufactured objects and the people who design them called Objectified. I did not find any background  information on Hustwit, but he seems to have a great interest and background knowledge on design.  The director of Helvetica seemed to showcase opinions from every side of the spectrum on the issue. He gave the capitalistic views and the communistic. I do not feel like any groups would be offended by what was presented in this movie. I now see Helvetica everywhere and I think about the effectiveness of it. I ask myself, "What was the designer trying to express?" and " Would another type of print been more effective?" The authors use of adds, signs, album covers, etc. though out the film helped me to keep my focus. It also helped me to internalize it by taking familiar objects and causing me to view them in a more critical manner. I am now more visually literate because I can read between the lines (or typeface is a more accurate term).
